About Doggie Diner
The famous hot dog restaurant chain, Doggie Diner, was founded in 1948 in Oakland, California. Their fresh, mouth-watering dogs, the dachshund dog wearing a chef's hat and bow-tie, and the fun nostalgic environment were all a hit among Northern California families.
For almost 40 years, more than 30 locations around the Bay Area brought a grin and a full, happy belly to families, businessmen, and Hollywood stars alike. Doggie Diner didn’t serve the cheesy stuff either (unless you ordered a cheese dog). The food was always fresh with unbeatable flavor, not full of chemicals or preservatives. Hot dog!—they sure did serve up some delicious dogs.
Doggie Diner was a staple of the California food scene, but sadly served its last hot dog in 1986. Fond memories of past Doggie Diner visits still buzz around the Bay Area. San Francisco's last remaining 7-foot fiberglass Doggie Diner mascot sign has even been declared an official historical landmark. In 2015, the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “The Doggie Diner is one of the five restaurants we wish still existed.” We heard you, California! We’re reviving the Doggie Diner so families can enjoy those delicious dogs once again.
